Back home and free from the port pain

dad went through some pretty intense port pain that no testing would show any problems with, but it WAS a huge problem. He finally was admitted to the hospital before his planned Thursday scheduled port removal, and got IV fluids on Tuesday, because by then he was unable to eat and unable drink much. The port was removed Wednesday and immediately he felt relief in his shoulder where the port had been.  He went from round the clock pain medicine, day and night every 4 hours or less,  and that not even eliminating it all, to a pain free port site.

The Drs wanted some kind of "proof" in testing that the port was infected etc, but not one test showed a problem other than it had fibrous growth that was making it difficult to access. ( No one ever mentioned to any of us that the port needed maintenance flushing, hmm) The surgeon thought it would be fine to send him home on Friday with a surgery date 6 days away. I kind of threw a fit to the Drs by Tuesday and insisted he couldn't wait that long. He was getting dehydrated, vomiting, and his stomach burning. I guess the squeaky wheel.... ;)

Anyway, Cindy and her perfect subconscious intuitive timing did it again. She was here for all of this, Amanda to. Helped us all out so much. She is now home with Mom and Dad now, and spent the last two nights at the hospital with Dad.

Not sure what the next step in the chemo treatment will be. We'll see at the next appointment.
